Some exciting news!! Our caterpillars have turned into butterflies today. Here is a picture of them on the 4th of March when we met them first! Can you spot them?!! There are 5 in total. ![]() The caterpillars then climbed up to the lid of their home (the pot) and hung in a j shape. This is where the magic happens!!! The caterpillars shed their exoskeletons one last time and hardened into their chrysalides. After a few days they were ready to move into their hatching habitat. Today two of our butterflies have hatched! Can you see them? Now they will be fed with water and sugar mixed together to make nectar. The nectar will be sprinkled on the flowers each day. The butterflies also will feed on slices of fruit because they like the juice!
Think of names for our new friends and you can send me your ideas! We had been working hard on our new theme of 'The Garden Centre' in Aistear before the school closures. Here we were printing 'tulips' using forks, using compost in our sand box and planting seeds! ![]() We were working on writing words too. We stretched out the word paying attention to what sounds we heard at the beginning, middle and end. Try this at home!
We were super excited to go to the post box to post our letters! We wrote lovely thank you letters to our parents and made sure we had our address and a stamp on our envelopes. We watched the video from 'An Post' of the journey of our mail. https://www.anpost.ie/anpost/schoolbag/primary/our+people/the+journey+of+your+mail/ We waited patiently and our letters arrived within a day or two!!
In February, we had lots of fun working in our post office in Aistear. We wrote letters and postcards to each other and we worked hard as postal workers selling stamps, TV licences, along with sorting letters and parcels and delivering them to all parts of our classroom! We even used our Bee Bot to deliver mail to the shops and houses. We worked together to pick a house or shop, designed an algorithm to give the Bee Bot the instructions on how to get there. We then programmed the Bee Bot with our algorithms. We used our problem-solving skills if he didn't reach his destination!!
Thanks to our Eco Committee, Green School Committee, Student Council and PTA for organising such a lovely treat in aid of the Australian Bushfires Appeal. We brought in €2 each and got a pancake and a topping of our choice! We were glad we could play our part in helping in a small way.

Please see sample timetable of suggested work for the coming week 23rd March-27th March.
We were so happy to find out that we had won the 'Junior Golden Boot' at our assembly which meant that we had the most children that week who had walked, cycled, scooted or came to school in a sustainable way.
To top it off we also were the 'Eco-Class of the Month' which meant that we were sorting out rubbish properly into the correct bins, trying to reduce waste and making good choices in helping our planet. We won a prize of jigsaws and games that we get to play with for the month! Let's hope we keep this up and continue to make sustainable choices for our planet! So proud!! In PE we have started our Gymnastics strand this month. Here is us practising how to 'rock and roll'. We were working rolling like a pin and in a curled/tucked up shape.
We did a Science Experiment this week where we looked at how raisins and carbonated water react. First we drew our predictions of what would happen the raisins when they were put into the 'fizzy drink'. We watched as the raisins began to dance! It's a great one to try at home with our budding scientists!
