in October was a busy month in Junior Infants! Our Aistear Theme was 'The Supermarket'. The children were in role in the role play area as shop keepers, customers, shop assistants and managers. We also built some supermarkets in the construction area and told our friends where you would find bananas, marshmallows and sweets. Some of us even included hand sanitizers at the entrance to our supermarkets! Before the customers went shopping, they wrote their shopping lists of what they wanted to buy. When they went to the checkout they made sure they had everything on their list! We made some Autumn leaves paintings as well as using fruit and vegetables to do some printing! We also made some Autumn leaves rubbings with crayons! Before we began our art, we sorted the leaves by colour ! Fine Motor Skills
We have been working on our fine motor skills in Junior Infants which is so important to help develop the muscles in our hands! Some ways we have been developing our fine motor skills is through threading, using tweezers to pick up pom poms and putting pegs into peg boards! We have been doing these activities as part of our Maths and Literacy stations!

Hi everyone! We have been settling in so well to Junior Infants. Take a look at some of the fun things we have been up to since starting school! Aistear One of the things we loved doing each day in our first few days of school was Aistear, which is where we learn through play! In September, we were learning about the theme of 'The Home'. We have five different stations and we get a turn with our group in each station. This is where we practise working as part of a team, using our problem solving skills and including the vocabulary we have learned about our theme. In our role play area we took turns being in role as mums, dads, brothers, sisters and we had various jobs to do in the home such as making the dinner in the kitchen, setting the table or relaxing in front of the TV! I think the role play was our favourite area in September. We built some interesting homes and castles, worked together to make jigsaws and we painted some pictures and even played in the sand pit for our sensory play area! The boys and girls have been working super hard on their Early Mathematical Activities (EMA). Here we have been sorting items into sets, making patterns and playing turn taking games. We started with sorting random objects into a set and we moved on to sorting by colour, shape, size and thickness! It has been fun using lots of hands on materials! We have been doing some Cosmic Kids Yoga! As we are trying hard to stick to our 'pods' the spots on the floor have been great for helping us to practise our social distancing from each other but also still getting to do fun activities!
Before the school closures we had our Learn Together Assembly on Fridays. The Junior Assembly took place every second Friday. At the assemblies, a class performed a song about something they were learning about in class, Colette would read a poem and Gemma would do Maths problems.
Since we will not be in school, we are having our 'Virtual Assembly'! The theme of this week's assembly is Kindness. Tune in at 1pm today instead of 11am because the older children are watching the RTE Home School Hub! Can you spot some familiar faces on the screen? Tell Mums and Dads who you see! Dear Parents, I have attached Friday's activities. As you are aware would have been getting our Easter holidays tomorrow! Feels very strange to think of that when being in school seems like so long ago now. I hope you enjoyed the blog post of some of the lovely pictures that have been sent to me over the past few weeks. Don't forget to tune into the virtual assembly tomorrow! As previously mentioned by Colette, the children were due to be on holidays so no school work will be uploaded over the next two weeks. The children can still do any of the activities previously sent if you wish. After Easter, if we do not return to school, we will be using See Saw as our way of communicating activities. We have suggested some apps that the children can use if you wish during the holidays.
Have a lovely break, stay safe and well and hopefully we will see each other again soon. I miss you all. Best wishes, Aoife ![]()

Dear Parents. See tomorrow's activities attached. It has been great to see the children engaging and enjoying the activities. Have a lovely evening, Aoife
It has been so lovely to see all the happy faces working and learning from home. Check out some of the fabulous artwork, designs and creativity over the last few weeks! Some lovely writing and bright artwork Even a scary shark came to visit!! ,I also really liked this one by a boy in the class which reminds us that by staying at home, we are helping each other and it will mean we will be able to see each other sooner! Lots of fun going to an 'Italian Restaurant', making cool crafts and exercising with Joe Wicks. Another boy in our class watched Don Conroy on YouTube and made this drawing of a clown. How cool! He even learned how to ride his bike without stabilisers! Well done! :D
Keep the pictures coming! Dear Parents, I have attached tomorrow's activities. Thanks again for the messages, good wishes, pictures and videos! Also, just a reminder for those children who were absent on the Thursday of the school closures and didn't get to take home their Maths book, you can access Operation Maths books on https://edcolearning.ie/User/Login username primaryedcobooks password edco2020 Best wishes, Aoife ![]()
It is time to say goodbye to the butterflies. I will be sad to see them go but know they will have lots of fun exploring the world and feeding on lovely plants! The red colour on the tissue you see is actually meconium which the liquid the butterflies released when they stretched their wings then they came out of their chrysalides. Slán butterflies!! You never know you might see one of them flying if you go for your walk in Lucan!
Hi all, I hope you enjoyed the activities for Monday. I have attached tomorrow's activities along with a Spring checklist you might wish to do. (I recognise that current restrictions are in place but it should be ok to do, staying in the 2km radius!) Also it is time to release the butterflies, I will try to film it and post it on the blog! Have a lovely evening and thanks for the feedback and the lovely pictures! Best wishes, Aoife ![]()
