1st Class Green |
September was a busy month with lots of new changes to our school! The children in Room 1 started primary school for the very first time and we were blown away by how well they settled in. They were extremely brave and all settled in so quickly to the new routines and rules about handwashing and keep their hands to themselves. In our classroom there are three adults helping us: Giorgia (class teacher), Laura (support teacher) and Carol (our Special Needs Assistant / S.N.A.). We have five different pods (table groups) in our room: Yellow, Orange, Green, Red and Blue. Each day the children work only within their pods and at breaktime they play only within our class bubble. The children only use the bathrooms allocated to their pod as well. This means that they do not mix with other class groups during the day. During the day, the children use a lot of hand-held materials and resources (eg. Lego, blocks, beads, counters, figurines, cards). We are very careful that children only play with the resources allocated to their pod to prevent any mixing between table groups. Each day, we steralise the materials using antibacterial soap and warm water, or alternatively we quarantine the toys in sealed containers for 72 hours until it is safe for the children to use them again. We change the activities at the table groups each day so that all of the children get a chance to play with new activities every day!

For the last few weeks you have all been hard at work, from home. Staying safe and minding your families is so important at this time. I was delighted to see you bring the fun spirit of our classroom home with you to share with your families. Take a look at some of our friends hard at work (and play!). Check out this clever way to revise your numbers, wow! This butterfly looks just like one of our painted ladies, I wonder which one it was? ,The artwork seems to be a firm favourite! Look at how talented our little siblings are, too! Being at home is the perfect time for some junk art - this looks like a train! I wonder where it's off to? We even got outside to enjoy a little bit of fresh air and had a picnic. What a lovely idea now that the weather is improving! Some of the children have been watching RTÉ's home school hub and were so excited to show off their projects! There was lots of maths too! I think there's a few budding teachers in our parents yet! I hear there's a new italian restaurant open in town! I can't wait to order some takeaway when we're back at school, that pizza looks yummy! What's your favourite pizza topping? We're getting our steps in everyday with Joe Wicks! *Happy Easter Holidays everyone!*
Dear Parents, Today would have been the last day of school before the Easter Holidays. You have all worked so hard since September, so please enjoy some rest and relaxation for the next two weeks. You all deserve it! I am attaching activities you might like to try today, 03.04.20.I have also attached some links to websites and apps you might like to use over the next two weeks.
Take care, Emma.
Dear Parents, Please see suggested activities for 02.04.20. Regards, Emma ![]()

Thank you to all of the boys and girls who sent in ideas for the Butterfly Names!
Make sure and keep an eye out for them, they might respond to their names if you say them softly!
Dear Parents, Please see suggested activities for 01.04.20. Thank you so much to all of the parents who have sent me updates on how you're all getting on at home. It's great to see the children hard at work and play! Regards, Emma ![]()
This week our butterflies emerged from their chrysalis! They have spent a few days getting used to their wings and building up their strength. I gave them some juicy oranges and flowers for food, butterflies love nectar, or sugary water (I hope they brush their teeth!!). I had to sprinkle some sugar water onto the flowers for them every couple days but they loved it! When butterflies stretch out their wings a red liquid called meconium can sometimes drip off their wings. So far I’ve gotten the names Pixel, Corona and Twinkle sent into me. That’s 3 names altogether, but there are five butterflies! I would love if you wanted to draw a picture of the butterflies and send it to me too! These butterflies are called painted ladies. How beautiful! Oreo and Wispa were just as excited as we were to see the butterflies arrive! 😍 ![]() ![]() The chrysalis will shake if it is scared, Wispa must have been making lots of noise! So that’s that! Our butterflies were ready to fly this morning. It was a glorious sunny day here so hopefully they found some of the flowers in my garden to hang out on for a little while! Keep an eye out for them when you’re outside you might be able to say hi! They’re very friendly - here’s a short video I took when we said goodbye! Dear Parents, Please see attached suggested activities for 31.03.20. We have one name suggestion for the butterfly so far - Pixel! I think it's a lovely name for him as the patterns on his wings look a little like pixels. Regards, Emma ![]()

Dear parents, I have attached some ideas and activities for you to do tomorrow. These will now be sent to you daily, by 8pm the evening beforehand. We were due to begin a new topic next week of Fairytales so where possible we have based some of the activities around this. Aoife and I have worked together to make up these documents and we welcome any feedback you may have such as what worked well for you and what did not work well? Also, if you have access to a home printer and would be able to print out the odd worksheet please let us know! We want to help make this time as manageable for you all as possible. Once again, please do get in touch if you have any questions (or ideas!). I hope you're all keeping safe and well! Emma. ![]()
