Welcome back: information for start of year

Written by

Welcome back to all our children and families to the beginning of our new school year and a very special welcome to our new Junior Infants and new children coming in to us up the school. School opens for all children on Thursday 31st August at 9:20 am. Returning children line up as usual in the yard in their new class lines where they will be met by their new teacher.

New Junior Infants can go straight to their classes at 9:20 am, rather than go to the yard. New Junior infants go home every day at 12:20pm until Monday 18th when school will close for all infants at 2 pm. There is no booklist for Junior Infants. The Book rental scheme covers all the books that are used. You will be asked to pay for a maths workbook later in the year. New Junior Infants need a school bag, lunch and a drink for the first two weeks. School lunches will be provided from September 18th when the children begin their long day.

New children (and parents) for other classes should go straight to the school hall on Thursday 29th at 9:20am where they will be met by teachers who will help to sort everything out with you. They also will need to bring lunch and a drink until they have been set up with the lunch company, Carambola

All returning first class children to go to the yard with the rest of the school. Every family in the newly mixed first class should know which class (red or green) their child should be going in to. But do not worry if you have forgotten, we have all the lists here and there will be someone to guide you if you are in doubt.

Please be aware of difficulties of parking in the school grounds. There are very few spaces available for parents. The car-parking for parents is designed to be a drop off and collection point only. In other words you may drop your child and keep moving but you cannot leave your car or block the flow of traffic for other cars. The staff car park is reserved strictly for teachers and other members of staff. I would advise you to park at the Castle Road entrance where there is much better availability and you can walk through into the school grounds. Otherwise, you might be best advised to park outside the school. If doing so please be very careful to park correctly and legally and never to park on the grass verges or to block the entrances of our neighbours. This has caused difficulty in the past.

Booklists for all classes are available in the Parent section of the website. Most of the books being used this year are on the book rental scheme. You pay for that through the yearly materials money you pay to the school. The only books that you are being asked to buy are workbooks that must be written on, or books that your child will keep over the next number of years such as Dictionaries and Atlases. This keeps your book bill to a minimum.

School calendar for 2017-2018 also available in the Parent section of the website

Looking forward to working with you all again. Enjoy last week of you holidays.
