Health & Well being WeekWritten by Gemma
We were able to hold our Health and Wellbeing Week in Esker ETNS with thanks to SDCC partnership who gave us a very generous grant to promote physical, mental and emotional wellbeing to our students, parents and staff. The week was jam packed with activities for students and parents alike. Have a read of how our week went. Monday: we focused on self-care and being positive towards ourselves. The parents took part in a full day certified First aid training course from Safety Ireland. Children took part in mindful affirmations and focused on what they liked about themselves. Our thought of the day was: 'The state of tomorrow's world depends on the state of our children's minds today' Heidi Thompson Tuesday: we focussed on moving more to stay physically fit. The parents met in the morning for a 5km walk in Griffeen park. The children all went on a mile with a smile walk and appreciated nature on the way. Our thought of the day was: It always seems impossible until it's done'- Nelson Mandela Wednesday: We looked at the importance of kindness towards others and the value of compliments. We invited Siobhan back to our school, who gave a fabulous yoga and meditation class to our parents. Children talked about how compliments made them feel and they did random acts of kindness towards each other. 5th and 6th class took part in yoga classes Aoife, who trained in India this summer. Our thought of the day was: 'Carry out a random act of kindness, with no expectation of reward, safe in the knowledge that one day someone might do the same for you.' -Princess Diana Thursday: Healthy eating. We focussed on eating a heathy diet to keep your body healthy. Parents came in to distribute fruit and veg to all the classes that was very kindly donated by Carambola. The children enjoyed watermelon, cantaloupe, pineapple, raspberries, oranges, and bananas. They tryied peppers, tomatoes, corn and carrots. Aoife took our 3rd and 4th classes for sound meditation and introduced them to the singing bowl. Our thought of the day was: 'It is health that is real wealth and not pieces of silver and gold.'- Mahatma Gandhi Friday: The last day was all about friendships and taking time to relax. We looked at the importance of talking to one another and connecting. The parents met for a coffee morning in the hall. It was so relaxed and very enjoyable to meet new and familiar friends. Children took time to appreciate their friends, and to understand the importance of talking and listening to one another. Our thought of the day was: “Your beliefs become your thoughts, Your thoughts become your words, Your words become your actions, Your actions become your habits, Your habits become your values, Your values become your destiny” Mahatma Gandhi A big thank you to SDCC partnership for funding this week in the school, thank you to Carambola for donating lots of sandwiches, water, fruit and snacks for this week. Thank you to Jane and Aoife who were instrumental in all the student activities, and a massive thank you to all the parents who took part. I hope you enjoyed the week, and will take time this year to take care of yourself, so that you can take really good care of your children.
