David from Lucan Sarsfield GAA is with us for the next few weeks teaching Junior Infants and 2nd Class some ball-handling skills for Gaelic Football. The children really enjoyed practising their new skills bouncing, catching and throwing the ball!
During the month of February and March we prioritised the teaching of Dance - Creative and Folk. This tied in nicely with our Céilí for Seachtain na Gaeilge! Here are some pictures of Junior Infants making a mirror dance with their partners!
The Active Committee did a Spring Clean of the PE storeroom in preparation for our Active Week this week! It's important that are equipment and resources are labelled, well organsied and easily accessible for teachers. We'll carry out an audit of all our PE equipment before the end of the school year.
We had lots of activties going on during Active Week last year. We played music during every little break and danced the break away! The Junior Classes played dodgeball with the help of some Active Committee members and 6th class students. Every class also took part in Orienteering trails around the school grounds!
Last year our Active Week took place from the 3rd - 7th April! It was a brilliant week organsied by the Active Flag Committee!
As part of Active Week we teamed up with various local sports people and clubs in our community who kindly came into our school and taught our children about their sports. Each class had a timetabled slot during the week so everyone got a chance to try the different sports! Here are a few pictures showing the amazing set up that Gym Stars Gymnastics organsied for us all!
A collection of photos from Senior Infants, 2nd Class and 5th class showcasing all the skills they're learning and fun they're having during their Gymnastics lessons!
We're continuing with our focus on Gymnastics this month. This is 5th class demonstrating their amazing Gymnastics skills!
For the months of January and February our school is covering the strand of Gymnastics for PE. All of the classes from Junior Infants up to 6th Class have been learning and practising lots of movement skills including travelling, balancing, jumping and rolling. We're really enjoying using all of the cool equipment!
We're very lucky in our school to have an array of PE equipment available to us. We had an in-school TeachMeet for teachers and SNAs where we familiarised ourselves with all of the equipment that can be used to teach each strand. The Teacher's Active Committee demonstrated some great activities that we could do with the children using all of the equipment.
We held an Active Flag slogan competition in our school. All of the children from 2nd class to 6th class had to think of a fun, catchy slogan to remind us of the importance of keeping active. A huge well done to Cassandra in 6th Class Red who was the winner with her brilliant slogan;
"RUN, HOP, SKIP AND PLAY, LET'S GET ACTIVE EVRYDAY!"
