In Esker ETNS we take part in all six strands of the Primary Physical Education Curriculum:
2. Outdoor and adventure
Last Tuesday we started Cross Country Club. Fifty children from 3rd- 6th Class will be training every week in preparation for the South County Dublin Cross Country Race Series. We are delighted to have Gerry from Lucan Harriers as our main coach and are really looking forward to our first race which will take place next week!
For the month of February every class in the school is participating in our running initiative. The idea is very simple, every child in every class will run every day. For children in the Junior Classes their target is 500M per day and for the Senior Classes their target is 1KM per day. Our Active School Representatives are recording how many children ran each day so as we can calculate how far we travel. Watch this space...
To help us warm up for the month of December we are doing Dance On Friday. Every Friday for small break we are playing music on the yard to encourage everybody to get moving and stay warm! Every class in the school has learnt dances to go with the following songs: Mr. Blue Skies, Love Runs Out and Best Day Of My Life. We have Dance Leaders who help remind everybody of the dance moves for these songs and our active committee encourage everybody to get moving and have fun!
Lucan Harrier's Ahletic's Coach Gerry has been working with 5th and 6th Class this year, training them in cross country for the past few months. Thanks so much to Gerry for making this so much fun and for helping 5th and 6th Class to improve so much. On the last day Gerry organised a Cross Country Race between 5th Class and between 6th Class. This was a great success and the children were thrilled to participate and receive medals and running jerseys from Gerry after the race.
