Active Schools Week 2018 Cricket

Naomi from Cricket Leinster visited us again during Active Week. On Wednesday the boys and girls got to practise their cricket skills and to learn new drills and activities. The Children then participated in mini cricket games to perfect the new skills. Congratulations to the boys and girls who took part in Primary Schools - Leprechaun Cup 2018 cricket blitz last week in Tymon park, the team performed very well and were unfortunate to lose by just one point.

Each morning this week, children are given a chance to reflect on an active thought of the day. Colette reads the thought through the intercom and the children are then encouraged to participate in Dead time (Drop Everything and Dance), a free dance time where children are encouraged to move around the classroom in an active way. Our active thoughts this week included;

Monday: You don't have to be better than everybody else, you just have to be better than you have ever been.

Tuesday: The strongest people aren't always the people who win, but the people who don't give up when they lose.

Wednesday: Today's active thought:

Imagine with all your mind.

Believe with all your heart.

Achieve with all your might.

Each day this week the Active Committee have been calling to each of our classrooms and counting the number of children who travel to school in an active way (walk, cycle or by scooter). Children in 6th class green have been learning about the benefits of Active Travel and designed a pgiant oster showing some of the benefits; happier students, healthier students, less traffic, better air quality, less traffic problems and improved road safety. We hope that you are enjoying Active Schools week.
