Some really important information for new school year in new school building in Esker Lane
No school bus next year
We have been informed that our families will no longer be eligible for the bus as the vast majority of children live within the 3.2 km radius of the new school. We are awaiting written confirmation of this from Bus Eireann but we have been told that our families are no longer eligible. We hope that this means that more and more children will be walking or cycling to school. However, we realise that a number of children will be arriving to school by car. This has implications for traffic management around the new school.
New opening and closing times
The Board of Management has taken the decision to start slightly later and to close slightly later (10 minutes at either end of the school day). This decision was not taken easily but was taken in consultation with other schools in the area, the Board of Management, the PTA, the staff, South Dublin County Council and local councillors, in an effort to minimise traffic disruption in the area.
New Opening and Closing times: 10 minutes later in the morning and 10 minutes later in the afternoon
· New opening time: 9:20 am
· New closing time: Infants: 2:00 pm
· New closing time: 1st class to 6th class: 3:00 pm
There are two main entrances to the school, one on Castle Road and one on Esker Lane. There doesn’t appear to be a problem at the front entrance to the school on Esker Lane as we are the only school using that particular road. We advise families that are driving to use the Esker Lane entrance. Problems may arise at the rear entrance to the school, Castle Road. This narrow road is the only road up to three schools, Coláiste Cois Life (Community College Gaelscoil), Scoil Naomh Padraig and our own school. This road is a cul-de-sac and there are currently some traffic management issues already on this road, particularly in winter.
Colaiste Cois Life opens at 8:40 am and Scoil Naomh Padraig opens at 9.00, leaving a twenty minute gap between the opening of one school and the other. We, as you know, currently open at 9.10 am. Opening the school at 9:20, ten minutes later than we currently do, will give us a twenty minute gap for the parents of one school to leave the area and for our parents to arrive. While 9:20 am seems quite late to start, there are many schools around the country which open at this time. Our closing time will be 3:00 pm. Hopefully, parents will get away quicker in the afternoon as they should not be caught up in traffic with other schools.
We will monitor the situation carefully during our first year in the new building and this decision may be reversed or changed altogether when we get to understand the situation on the ground.
A map of the area is attached. See also on reverse of map, class allocation for next year.

End of Year reports: Have you moved house?
End-of-year Reports will be going out mid-June. Make sure to let Suzanne know in writing if you have changed address so that the report goes to the correct address.
Enrolment for future years
There may be change in the enrolment process for Educate Together schools in the area next year. We are advising all of our families to make sure that younger brothers and sisters are put on our pre- enrolment list for future years. Our classes are filling up very quickly and we have waiting lists for this and future years. Forms available from our website and from Suzanne in the school office.
Leaving the school?
Our Infant classes for next year are full. We are currently offering places to children on our waiting lists for older classes. If your child is not returning in September 2014 for any reason, it is very important that you let us know, so that we can give this place to a child who is waiting to get a place in the school. Please let Colette, Tom or Suzanne know as soon as possible.
Adamstown Community Summer Camp: Registration tonight, Tuesday 27th May from 6 to 8pm in the St Johns the Evangelist School Adamstown.
Below is a message form Winifred: organiser
“Our usually highly subsidized weekly fees per child are €35 for the first child, €20 for the second Child and €15 for each subsequent child. Please note that the two weeks summer camp runs from 14th to 25th July and is for children in primary and secondary school aged 4 to 16 years. Kindly note that it is advisable to arrive early since places are allocated on a ‘first come, first served basis’ and from our experience in previous years, the camp is usually oversubscribed”.
